Mediclinic improves the predictability and precision of esthetic surgery with the in-house development of the Precision Surgery Application®
Through the use of several high resolution cameras in the ceiling and the walls of the operation room and a big LED screen, the surgeon gets a perfect view of the patient and the operating field. Precision Surgery Application® also uses augmented reality to guide the surgeon during the operation.
The advantages
A perfectly symmetrical result
An excellent view of the patient from above and from the side
Patient specific data is projected through augmented reality
The Precision Surgery application projects lines to perfect the positioning of the operation table and the patient in the operating room. This system makes it a lot easier for the surgeon to judge symmetry during the operation. Real time images from above the operation table or a ‘bird’s eye view’ from underneath are very helpful during esthetic interventions. The surgeon is always positioned next to the patient and therefore never gets a perfectly symmetrical view from above or underneath.
Augmented Reality for esthetic surgery
For the perfect positioning of breast implants.
Breasts move up and down dependent on whether the patient is lying down or standing up. Even with small tight breasts the nipple moves 4 cm in different positions.
Breast implants are placed while the patient is lying down, but we obviously also want a perfect result when the patient stands up. Implants tend to remain in the same position, while the patient’s natural breast tissue moves around because it is much softer.
Photos are taken during the consultation with a special calibrated camera. The data recorded during this consultation is now projected onto the operating field for the ideal positioning of the implants.
For perfect control during rhinoplasty.
During the first consultation, a computer simulation is made and photos are taken with a special calibrated camera. Based this data the new profile of the nose is determined. This profile is then projected on the patient’s nose during the operation through augmented reality. As a result the surgeon knows exactly how much needs to be removed or added. This system provides the surgeon with the utmost control during a rhinoplasty.
